TACOMA, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Enrollment at Insight School of Washington (ISWA), a full-time online public school program of the Quillayute Valley School District, is now open for the 2018-19 school year. ISWA provides Washington students in grades 9-12 with the opportunity to continue with their education in an alternative setting and/or get back on track academically in a distraction-free environment.
ISWA’s comprehensive education approach focuses on providing struggling students with the academic, social and emotional support needed to succeed in school and beyond. Using a combination of web-based lessons, live online learning sessions and support from state-certified teachers and counselors, the school creates a unique educational experience for each student that helps ensure their success after high school.
ISWA equips every student with an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP), which is informed by teachers who work with students to make sure the lesson plans are based on the student’s needs and the progress the student has made to date, as well as the student’s personal interests and college and career aspirations.
The rigorous and engaging curriculum offered at ISWA includes courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, world languages, art and music, as well as elective courses. State-certified teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, interacting with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings.
Additionally, qualified students have the opportunity to enroll in college courses tuition-free through the Running Start Program, offered by their local community college, which allows them to earn credits toward both a high school diploma and a college degree.
ISWA offers a Social-Emotional Learning component called “The Seven Mindsets” through a homeroom advisory model tailored to provide students with the encouragement, strategies and confidence to become successful adults. Moreover, the school provides opportunities for credit recovery, which enables students to concentrate on courses in a condensed schedule (typically a nine-week period) to help students get back on track and graduate high school on time.
ISWA provides families and students an alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar education. Students attending ISWA come from diverse backgrounds, many of them struggling at a traditional brick-and-mortar school before finding ISWA.
“I believe that being an online student allowed for an easier transition for Laura,” said Jean Majewski, whose daughter, Laura, graduated from ISWA in 2016 and now attends the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. “As an online student, she learned the importance of being self-motivated and developing good time management skills, which have served her well.”
Interested families are invited to attend in-person or online information sessions during the enrollment period. For more information about ISWA and a complete list of events, visit http://wa.insightschools.net.
